Deer Valley Opening Day Dec. 2nd and Salt Lake City Olympics News

Deer Valley Resort Opens Saturday, Dec. 2nd

It’s snowing in Park City as we report on the exciting news that Deer Valley Resort will open for the winter ski season tomorrow, December 2nd. Season Pass holders are skiing the terrain today from 12-4 pm.

Exciting things are happening at Deer Valley – everything from the expansion news to the latest accolades. Deer Valley Resort has been named in the top 10 in USA TODAY’s 2023 Reader’s Choice Awards! Two categories are in the top 10 out of 20 top nominees:

Best Ski School: Deer Valley Resort Ski School (#9)
Best Ski Restaurant: The Mariposa (#7)
In the historic 2002 Winter Games, Deer Valley Resort proudly served as the venue for several key events, showcasing its world-class facilities. The resort’s challenging runs provided the perfect backdrop for the thrilling freestyle moguls and aerials, as well as the alpine slalom competitions. Notably, “Champion” was the designated run for the freestyle moguls, testing the skills of top athletes. The alpine slalom took place on the demanding slopes of “Know You Don’t,” while “White Owl” was the chosen site for the spectacular freestyle aerials. These runs at Deer Valley Resort have since become iconic in the winter sports community, highlighting the resort’s commitment to excellence and its role in winter sports history.
Looking forward to 2034, we’re thrilled that Salt Lake City has been named as a “preferred host” for the winter games.
Tom Kelly, spokesperson for Salt Lake City’s Olympic bid committee, is confident that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will move forward with targeted dialogue for the 2034 Winter Games. This is a significant step in the process, as it represents a more formalized approach to planning the potential future Olympics.
Here’s what Tom Kelly had to say about the bid: “Salt Lake City’s bid for 2030 and 2034 is highly advanced. They have secured 100% of the necessary guarantees and political support within the state. Public opinion polls show over 80% favorable support for the bid.”
Targeted dialogue involves a deep dive into the planning process for hosting the Winter Games. It includes fine-tuning operational arrangements, venue plans, and other key elements to ensure a successful event. It’s like a business announcing an acquisition, with details being worked out before finalizing the deal.
At the end of targeted dialogue, host cities may be put up for election by the IOC, officially granting them the opportunity to host a future Olympics. The IOC intends to award both the 2030 and 2034 Games next summer.
Robert Livingstone with predicts that Salt Lake City will be the preferred candidate for the 2034 Games after targeted dialogue.
Utah’s Winter Olympic bid is the only one recognized by the IOC for 2034, while Sweden, Switzerland, and France are vying for the 2030 Games. Salt Lake City has expressed a preference for 2034 due to a tight schedule between the Los Angeles Games in 2028 and the Winter Games in 2030.
Organizers have assured that no taxpayer money will be needed for another Olympics in Salt Lake City, which is expected to cost over $2 billion.
The targeted dialogue process, established by the IOC in 2019, streamlines the bidding process, making it more modern and business-oriented.
